Product Description

Zeolite molecular sieve is the hydrate of crystalline aluminosilicate metal salt. After activation of zeolite molecular sieve, water molecules are removed and the remaining atoms form a cage structure. The aperture is 3~10Å. . There are many holes of a certain size in the molecular sieve crystal, and many of the holes are connected with the diameter of the hole (also known as "window "). Molecular sieve is named because it can adsorb molecules smaller than its pore diameter into the interior of the hole, while repels molecules larger than the pore diameter out of its hole, playing the role of screening molecules. Zeolite can exist in nature, artificial large number of synthesis from the 1970s began.

Its general chemical formula is: Mx/m[(AlO2)x·(SiO2)y]·zH2O. M represents a cation, m represents its valence number, z represents the hydration number, and x and y are integers.

 

Properties:

Molecular sieves are used as an adsorbent for gases and liquids. Molecules small enough to pass through the pores are adsorbed while larger molecules are not. It is different from a common filter in that it operates on a molecular level and traps the adsorbed substance. For instance, a water molecule may be small enough to pass through the pores while larger molecules are not, so water is forced into the pores which act as a trap for the penetrating water molecules, which are retained within the pores. Because of this, they often function as a desiccant. A molecular sieve can adsorb water up to 22% of its own weight.[7] The principle of adsorption to molecular sieve particles is somewhat similar to that of size exclusion chromatography, except that without a changing solution composition, the adsorbed product remains trapped because, in the absence of other molecules able to penetrate the pore and fill the space, a vacuum would be created by desorption.

The adsorption of zeolite molecular sieve has two characteristics:

(1) The Lewis center on the surface is very polar;

(2) The size of the cage or channel in the zeolite is small, which makes the gravitational field strong. Therefore, its adsorption capacity for adsorbate molecules far exceeds other types of adsorbents. Even if the partial pressure (or concentration) of the adsorbate is very low, the adsorption capacity is still considerable. The adsorption and separation effect of zeolite molecular sieve is not only related to the size and shape of adsorbate molecules, but also related to its polarity. Therefore, zeolite molecular sieves can also be used for the separation of substances of similar size.

Application:

  • Molecular sieves are often utilized in the petroleum industry, especially for the purification of gas streams and in the chemistry laboratory for separating compounds and drying reaction starting materials. For example, in the liquid natural gas (LNG) industry, the water content of the gas needs to be reduced to very low values (less than 1 ppmv) to prevent it from freezing (and causing blockages) in the cold section of LNG plants.
  • They are also used in the filtration of air supplies for breathing apparatus, for example those used by scuba divers and fire fighters. In such applications, air is supplied by an air compressor and is passed through a cartridge filter which, dependent on the application, is filled with molecular sieve and/or activated carbon, finally being used to charge breathing air tanks. Such filtration can remove particulates and compressor exhaust products from the breathing air supply.

Storage

Regeneration

 

Removal of water: dry gas such as nitrogen, air, hydrogen, saturated hydrocarbon, etc. can be used to heat to 150-320℃ and pass into the molecular sieve bed under 0.3-0.5kg/m2 pressure for 3-4 hours, and then to the adsorber Pass in dry cold air for about 2-3 hours, isolate the air and cool to room temperature.
